Melt your heart Movies

You'll love our list of favorite tear-jerkers and crowd-pleasers. They make us laugh, cry, and leave us with that warm and fuzzy feeling inside. Romantic movies -- modern comedies and ageless classics -- always know just how to pull on those heartstrings

1. Pretty Woman

This is a somewhat unconventional take on the boy-meets-call-girl and goes from rags to riches plot. The movie stars Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts) as a prostitute in Los Angeles, California and Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) a New York businessman.

2. Sleepless in Seattle

After Sam Baldwin's (Tom Hanks) wife dies, he moves to Seattle to start a new life with his 8-year-old son Jonah. Still feeling the pain from her death, Jonah calls a radio talk show to ask for a new wife for his dad. Soon Sam is bombarded with letters from women wanting to marry him.

3. An Officer and a Gentleman

Zack Mayo (Richard Gere) is a Navy brat. Having grown up with an abusive alcoholic father, Zack wants to continue in his father's military tradition, but that's it. Paula Pokrifki (Debra Winger) is an average woman who works in a factory. She doesn't have much of a past but knows that she wants more of a future. The two meet and soon fall in love, but Zack's commitment issues jeopardize the union. In the end, he realizes that he really does love her and has to confront and defeat the ghosts of his past.

4. Titanic

Recipe for a tearjerker: Take one boy and one girl. Put on a luxury liner. Add ice. Shake. Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) wins a ticket aboard the new luxury cruise liner, the Titanic, in a poker game. Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) is also boarding the ship with her rich fiance Cal and her well-to-do mother.
As they fall in love, Rose tells Jack that when the ship docks, she is getting off with him. As they are kissing on deck, the Titanic hits the iceberg and slowly the ship takes on water. Soon the Titanic is sinking and there are not enough lifeboats to save all of the passengers. Will Jack and Rose be tragically torn apart or will their romance live on?

5. Shakespeare in Love

Young William Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) is suffering from writer's block. When Will meets Viola de Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow), the daughter of a rich merchant, he finds his muse. Viola longs for adventure and romance, and her passion for the theater draws her to Will and to the stage. She auditions for a part in his new play, Romeo and Ethel the Pirate's Daughter, disguised as a male since women were not allowed to act in theater. As the play goes on, the love affair between Will and Viola flourishes, but her father intends to marry her to nobleman Lord Wessex (Colin Firth).
